Room With Potential

I can't believe I'm about to share this.
Yayas, you may want to look away for this one.
Really!

It's a picture of my "back" room. It's a shameful mess. My grandmother is spinning in her grave right now. Doesn't it look like the beginnings of hoarding?

I was thinking it's a metaphor for my life. Once it was my "office" it was fixed up and although I wasn't really satisfied with the decor, it was ok looking.

For a while, just like me, it was full of an exciting kind of potential. Just the weekend before the sad, bad thing happened, I had emptied out the secretary in the corner and was planning on soon getting help moving the big stuff out. Dreaming about moving a crib in.

Now it's a wreck, just like me.

Full of leftover junk from the kitchen remodel, Christmas presents that haven't found a home, crap that fell out of the closet that I was too lazy to pick up, Dollface's art supplies and toys, Sweet Pea's ultrasounds and memory box, bookshelf emptied of my books and waiting for baby's stuff, photography stuff, tech stuff, FET paperwork, school stuff.

Everything's in there. It's a mess, just like my life. I can't tell if I'm going forward or backward. I can't get this room together and I can't get myself together either.

Perhaps there is still potential though.

Let's call these "before" pictures, be on the look out for "after" soon:

  1. That cabinet in the corner is fab. Don't beat yourself up. I've seen worse. Don't think of it as hoarderish, think of it as in a state of transition.

  2. You are a brave woman! Seriously though, my spare room has looked worse. I began to feel so badly about it I moved all the junk out to the backyard shed!! I like the title of the post...potential. That room has lots of potential and if you can still see the carpet in places then it's not nearly as bad as you think it is!

  3. To be honest, you had me dreading the pictures I was about to see. Honey, you are a looooong way off of being a hoarder! But I can totally understand it feels that way to you. I have to have things orderly in order to feel energized and if I'm in a room that I've let start to collect clutter I feel drained. Like you said though, definite Potential.

  4. OK, this ya ya took a peek-
I think the room is gorgeous and full of potential. Things are a little messy right now, but beautiful things don't happen without a little mess.
    I know that that room is going to hold something so amazing one day that thousands of pictures will come from that room {and not all of them will be pictures taken by you....}
I don't think your Grandma is spinning in her grave right now. I think she's waiting. Waiting and smiling...

  6. I can see the floor! You have a LONG way to go before you are gonna be on one of the hoaders programs on TV. It will make a beautiful nursery long before then. Hey, maybe you can save all of your child's stuff and once they leave home for college you can try for TV!

  7. If it makes you feel any better, I have worse rooms in my house (and boy, you should see my garage!). :)

There is always potential! I hope that you get the perfect motivation to get to those after pictures.

  8. That was NOWHERE near as bad as I thought it was going to be based on your prologue. InBetween is right. If you can see the floor, it's not that bad.

  9. I think you're just waiting for the right motiviation, aka a successful IVF, to tackle the project. Which, by the way, isn't even CLOSE to hoarding. Trust me, I'm a mental health professional...
